Leading up to our engagement, Vince had been doing a really good job of making me believe that he didn't even have a ring! "Joce, they're so expensive."; "I have no idea what to pick!"; "I don't know what you like!" He actually had a ring all along. Sneaky!
The week before his proposal, Vince planned a very nice fancy date. The thought definitely flickered through my head, if I was going to get proposed to. We were in Stanley Park in Vancouver when he told me "I'm not proposing to you tonight...just so you know." AAGHGHGHHGH haha
The following week was the day we got engaged. Something Vince and I always like to do, is go on full day dates! So he had planned the whole day for us. He wanted to get an early start (and we had been up late at a friends the night before). When I woke up in the morning, all I wanted to do was keep sleeping. I had no clean clothes because I missed laundry day-it was also POURING rain! So I put on dirty clothes (my shirt literally had a stain on it), and my red gumboots, didn't brush my hair and called that 'good enough'!
I drove to Vince's house, and we proceeded to go about our day, doing the normal things we would do if we were hanging out. Vince had a mysterious black bag that was in the back of the car when we started our adventure! We went to De Dutch for breakfast. After that we went to the mall. Vince wanted to buy frisbees so we could play frisbee golf! Turns out it was the wrong season. While we were walking back to the car, Vince stopped outside a jewelry shop window and pointed at a ring "That one's nice?" NO!! IT WAS NOT! I told him. "AH! I'll never be able to choose..." he said. (What a trickster!!)
After leaving the mall, we started driving up to Whistler! I fell asleep in the car. We drove to Brandywine Falls, which is just south of Whistler. The gate to the park was actually closed! But we just hopped over and continued on. We walked down to the falls, where Vince asked to take a picture together. I thought it was weird that He wanted to take a picture (since that is something He usually doesn't ask to do). A few months earlier, Vince had said that it would be a fun thing to do to make a scrapbook of our photos together! "But we don't take any photos together Vince". HAHA So, I thought maybe he just wants to get started on getting photos together for our scrapbook!
After leaving the falls, the next event planned was the hot springs. However, it was a bit of a trek into the woods, and it was pouring rain, so we opted for the Whistler leisure centre! We sat in the hot tub which was funny, and nice :)
After the pool, we drove into Whistler village where we had an awesome lunch from Splitz grill followed by the BEST coffee from Mt. Currie Coffee.
After lunch we started driving up past Pemberton and stopped at Setin Lake. Setin Lake is this GORGEOUS lake that Vince and I had driven to last summer before we started dating. We had always planned to go back there. Because it was such a rainy day, we didn't really want to get out of the car, so we just backed the car up to the edge and put down the chairs in the back seat and turned the window wiper on to enjoy the view from the back/trunk of the car! This was our 'picnic' that Vince had planned :)
Vince then took out of the mysterious bag, a PUMPKIN PIE! (which is my favourite dessert in the whole world!) which he homemade himself, including the crust!!!!! (If I am honest, it actually wasn't the best pumpkin pie I've eaten, but it was my FAVOURITE pumpkin pie I've ever had!) I was so ecstatic about the pie! I thought that was the whole date! To bring me to a beautiful lake, and give me an amazing pie! Vince then took out a letter that He had written me.
Vince then read his letter to me. The letter said so many nice things, which told me that I was the one for him. (Still oblivious that I was getting proposed to)
After reading me the letter, Vince took out a cloth sunglasses case and put in my hand two wooden rings that he made for us! He told me that these were going to be our wedding bands, and that He had been working on them for the past 3 months. His is made of walnut, and mine of maple.
I was so overwhelmed by everything! But I didn't want to assume I was getting proposed to. So, I thought to myself "This means we're getting married one day!"
We hugged in the car after, and Vince's heart was beating SO fast! I just though, "He must be really happy and excited that I liked the pie!" A few minutes later, Vince said that it looked as though the rain had let up a bit, and we should walk down to the lake. So I slipped on my gumboots and we walked down. According to Vince, I wouldn't stop hugging him, and He couldn't get the ring out of his pocket, but He didn't want to push me away. HAHA I don't remember that. I guess I let go eventually, and He pulled out a wooden box from Brilliant Earth and proceeded to ask me to marry him!!! I was so shocked! What am amazing day!
Vince had planned to purposely be in an area with no cell reception so we could enjoy the moment together! Only problem, was that I couldn't focus! HAHA. Eventually we started making our way back to the city to share the exciting news with our family and friends!
Only 130 days until we are married!
