My Perfect Proposal
It feels so weird referring to him as my fiancé. For the past 7 years on top of being the center of my universe, my protector, my confidant, my shoulder to cry on, my best friend, he's always been my "boyfriend". All that changed on February 14th, 2015.
That Saturday started off as any other, we slept in till 10:00am, got dressed, and headed off to our favorite breakfast spot. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, although looking back on it now he must have been so nervous. To tell you a little bit about my fiancé, for a man who works for himself and makes important decisions everyday, he is actually a very humble and extremely shy person away from his office. So once breakfast was done, we drove downtown to do some window-shopping. Along the way, we talked about what Valentine's Day meant to us. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I told him that I loved the idea of Valentine's Day and all the romance and love associated with it. He's more of the realist type and just kind of brushed off the whole Valentine's idea saying that it's become over-hyped and commercialized. Way to burst my romance bubble right?!?!
So after spending a couple hours downtown, we headed back home to take a quick power nap and freshen up for our dinner that night.
What I didn't know was that he was planning on making this night the most memorable and romantic Valentine's Day of my life, something he had been planning since before Christmas.
For the past year-and-a-half or so we both flirted with the idea of getting engaged, but there was always a reason that came up preventing us from following through. Around the end of November 2014, we talked about getting engaged in early 2015. But then around Christmas time he told me that work was not going well, and that he had some unexpected expenses which caught him off-guard. So all-in-all, he said that realistically speaking he didn't think it would happen towards later on in the year. What I didn't know was that he already had the ring and all this was a part of his plan to completely surprise me when he asked!!
So we get to the restaurant and to my pleasant surprise we are seated in our favorite waiter's section. All the staff at this restaurant are top notch, but we always have an exceptional time with this particular waiter. Dinner is going amazingly well, the food is on point, great conversation, the atmosphere is delightful and the overall ambiance of love coming from the packed restaurant resonates from wall to wall, and I can't help think to myself, that this is perfect.
We finish our main courses and the only thing on my mind is "Chocolate soufflé" which is the dessert of choice at this restaurant. Our waiter comes to take our order and I notice that my boyfriend has become somewhat distracted. He's constantly looking around almost as if he's looking for someone, but I pay it no mind. Dessert finally arrives, our waiter places two glasses of champagne on the table which I find odd, the other customers notice and there's a feeling of excitement that fills the air around our table. Then I see it, written on a huge chocolate slab the words every girl wants to hear from her man, "Will You Marry Me?" I turn to look at him and he is on bended knee in front of everyone and says "Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?". He was holding the most perfect ring I have ever seen. I can barely get my "Yes!" out over the tears of joy!! The restaurant erupts with cheers and congratulations as I give him a huge hug and a kiss.
Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think he would propose in such a perfect and romantic way. He truly got me. I can't wait to see what other surprises he has in store for me!
